Short history


The regiment was formed at the end of September 1941 at the airport Anapa, and was based on squadrons provided by the 8th and 9th Fighter Air Regiment of the Navy. The primary armament consisted of fighter aircraft types Polikarpov I-15bis and I-16.

The regiment was included in the so-called fighting army on October 4, 1941, while its superior headquarters was 62. fighter air brigade. Already in December of the same year, the regiment handed over obsolete fighters to other units and was rearmed to more modern machines of the type MiG-3. After handing over the remaining MiG-3 and Jak-1 to the 62nd Navy Fighter Regiment in August 1942 , the regiment was assigned in October of the same year machines of the type LaGG-3 and Jak-7b.

In May 1943, the 1st Squadron was detached as a basis for the formation of the 3rd and 30th Independent Reconnaissance Air Regiment of the Navy, and as a replacement, the regiment in August 1943 was created a new 1st Squadron. Its armament included British fighters Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Vb. In November, other foreign aircraft were added to the regiment's arsenal, this time the American Curtiss Kittyhawk of later production series. As of April 1, 1944, the regiment was armed with a total of 44 fighters of foreign origin, of which 36 Kittyhawkov and 8 Spifire Mk.Vb.

For significant merits in the liberation of the most important base in the Black Sea - Sevastopol, the regiment was awarded the honorary title of "Sevastopol" on July 22, 1944. Two months later, on September 16, 1944, the regiment was removed from the ranks of the so-called fighting army, and on September 25, 1944, as an award of merit in the liberation of the towns of Tulča and Sulino, he was awarded the [Red] pledges[/url].

In December 1946, the regiment was renamed the 34th Fighter Air Regiment of the Black Sea Fleet.
