8 cm PAW 600

It is a weapon developed in 1943 at the request of the German infantry, which required a light cannon using a smaller powder charge than a rocket or recoilless cannon. At a distance of 750 m he was able to hit a target with an area of 1x1m. Rheinmetall-Borsig developed the Panzerabwehrwerfer hence the acronym PAW (anti-tank thrower). It is a so-called two-chamber cannon working on the principle of high and low pressure. A special ammunition was developed for the weapon - a wing-stabilized cumulative mine, which was attached to a massive steel plate with small holes, closing the muzzle of the cartridge case. During the shot, the powder charge burned perfectly at very high pressure. The flue gases penetrated the holes in the board and filled the space behind the mine. At sufficiently high pressure, the mine was released. Thanks to this solution, low pressures were created in the barrel itself, so the cannon could have a light barrel, a carriage and a braking device.

Diskuse

several weapons were developed under this designation (so there are two different types in the photos, ten pieces were delivered to the units at the end of 1944. A total of 260 pieces of this interesting weapon were produced and delivered to the army by the end of WWII. In addition to anti-tank ammunition was also shrapnel ammunition (HE) whose range reached significantly higher, ie 6200 m and the weight of the projectile 4.46 kg.
