In the summer of 1943, the Azerbaijani Infantry Battalion 818 was formed in occupied Poland from volunteers, deserters and prisoners of war coming from Azerbaijan; its training was directed by the Azerbaijani Legion.
In June and July 1944, he was subordinated to Field Headquarters 372 and performed security duty on Polish territory.
From August, one company was assigned to 17th Infantry Division to secure its rear on the Eastern Front, the rest of the battalion was subordinated to Army Rear Area Command 585 4th Panzer Army.
According to some sources, part of the unit participated in the suppression of the Warsaw Uprising as part of Kampfgruppe Reinefarth, and the Azeris were supposed to have participated in the massacre of the population in the Wola district.
In January 1945 the battalion operated in Silesia, the end of the war found it in south-eastern Germany.
