85. Guards Fighter Sevastopol Air Regiment awarded the Order of the Red Flag and the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky
The 85th Guards Fighter Air Regiment ( 85th GIAP) was established by Decree of the People's Commissariat of Defense of the USSR № 128 of 18.03.1943 transformed from 2. IAP. At the same time, 268 was transformed. IAD and 6. Guards Fighter Division (6th GIAD).
In the period from 13.05.1944 to 13.07.1944, the regiment was not involved in direct combat. In the report 6. GIAD was in reserve of the Supreme Command Headquarters and focused on the combat training plan. New fighters Jak-9 were added to the aircraft Jak-1, which the regiment had in its condition.
For the medal in the battles with the German occupiers and for the liberation of the city Sevastopol was the regiment's order Headquarters of the Supreme Command № 0136 of 24.05.1944 awarded the honorary title "Sevastopol".
For exemplary performance of command tasks in the fight against the German invaders, for the conquest of the city Debrecen and at the same time manifested high heroism and courage was on 14.11.1944 Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR 85. GIAP vyznamenaný Radom Bohdan Chmelnického II. class.
From 01.04.1945 to 28.04.1945, the delivery and management of new fighters took place Jak-3.
For the exemplary performance of the combat tasks of the command in the fighting with the German invaders, for the conquest of the city Budapest and the high heroism and courage of its members was the regiment on April 5, 1945 Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet USSR 85. GIAP awarded Order of the Red Flag.
The regiment was withdrawn from the operating army 11.05.1945.
