If it has captured what it had, the ring in the sight remains on the captured target, if it detects interference, the ring follows the interference and deviates from the target. The ZONA signal is not generated until this moment - either the target is in the launch area, the warhead has captured the target and the shooter presses the trigger to fire the missile and overruns the computer, or the warhead did not capture the target, and it is necessary to lock and re-capture the target. If no ZONE signal is present, the missile is not fired even if the target is captured by the warhead.
Then it is possible to launch a rocket only in manual mode. In this case, however, the ZONA signal is generated by the 9V385 missile launcher by pressing the trigger when the warhead is released and not by the 9S86 device. The operator also gives overruns manually.


Another case may occur if the operator optically intercepted the target, 9S86 is active, but SNH detected interference while the ZONA signal is present - (rangefinder evaluated the launch area - the missile is fired for interference. As SNH has the ability to deviate from the optical axis of the missile ( sight and rangefinder) by + - xxx degrees (I'm not sure.

9S86 - The launch area evaluation device automatically evaluates the data required to determine the launcher's over-run angles at the time of missile launch and blocks the missile from being fired at the target if the target is outside the effective range of the complex.


The basis of the apparatus is a coherent-pulse radar rangefinder operating in the millimetre band, the antenna of which is placed between the missile launchers. It is capable of measuring the distance to the target from 30 to 10300 m with a maximum error of less than 100 m and the radial velocity of the target with a maximum error of less than 30 m/s. The data are processed by a computer which evaluates the launch area boundary with a maximum error of 300-600 m and calculates the over-run angles of the missile launch with mean errors of max. 0.1-0.2 degrees.


Whether the target is in the launch area is indicated to the operator by the "ZONE" indicator which lights up in the sight. In the case of firing in automatic mode, when the trigger is pulled, the 9S86 system automatically takes control of the cradle and moves the cradle by calculated angles of elevation in the time between the trigger pull and the actual launch of the missile.


The entire system can be disconnected and the rocket can be fired at the target in manual mode without cooperation with this system.


Since it is an active radar, its use in combat has a debunking effect on the 9K35M complex's position in the field.
