A-222 Bereg CVS (central command post) [A-222 Bereg command and control vehicle]
А-222 Берег ЦПУ (центральный пост управления)

The central command post of the A-222 Bereg coastal artillery complex consists of:

- BR-136 fire control system
- radar channel for target tracking and monitoring
- Optical-electronic target acquisition and tracking channel (TV + laser)
- a system of communication links for communication and transmission of firing data to other elements of the complex
- crew collective protection filtering equipment
- air conditioning to ensure normal living conditions for the crew
- auxiliary equipment

The BR-136 fire control system provides circular (if necessary, sectoral) radar and television-optical reconnaissance of the circular horizon of the surface and ground situation at any time of day or night.

Operation of the BR-136 fire control system is possible even in conditions of active or passive jamming.

Up to 4 radar-visible targets can be automatically tracked simultaneously. Two of them can be fired against simultaneously.

After the target is destroyed, the BR-136 fire control system allows virtually instantaneous fire transfer to the next tracked target.

After determining the movement parameters of the tracked targets, the fire control system calculates the full guidance angles for 6 to 8 A-222 Bereg SDZ self-propelled artillery pieces in centralized control mode, taking into account ballistic and meteorological corrections as well as the distance of each individual gun from the central command post. In doing so, full automation of all parameter calculation processes is ensured, including automatic correction of radar tracking due to tracking errors caused by artillery shell bursts.

During the operation of the central command post, circular radar information is displayed on circular horizon indicators with direct azimuthal decay. The indicators also display the two electronic aiming points of the first and second tracking channels - two thin lines made by the tracking of targets by the hand-tracking operators by rotating a hand-control ball (sort of like the big trackball that used to be on laptops, but here the ball was a little larger in diameter than a billiard ball). When the manual tracking marker matched the target marker, it switched to auto-tracking mode.

The data from the TV-laser tracking channel was output to the TV indicator. During this process, information about the distance of the detected objects, which was measured by the laser rangefinder, was displayed on a special light board.

Each of the two tracking channels operated in three operator-controlled modes (manual homing, semi-automatic and inertial tracking) and also in two automatic modes (programmed target acquisition and automatic tracking).

In addition, in the first channel, TV-laser tracking of any of the searched targets was preferred. When operators work in controlled modes and also when checking the quality of automatic tracking, a special precision azimuth-range sector indicator is used, on which radar information about the surface situation is displayed.

The fire control channels of the A-222 Bereg self-propelled coastal artillery complex are capable of operating in the mode of connecting the complex elements to naval or coastal targets. The BR-136 fire control system provides fire control by artillery elements both by single salvos and by rapid fire at 4, 6, 8, 10 or 12 shots per minute. The commander can check the course of fire on azimuth-range indicators or receive information from search stations or reconnaissance helicopters. Digital printers are used to document firing results.

The superstructure of the central command post is internally divided into five sections:

- Engine;
- aerial;
- high-frequency;
- radio operator;
- operator.

In the engine compartment there is a diesel-electric generator for backup power supply (if the A-222 Bereg VZBP combat readiness vehicle or the central power grid is not connected) with 30 kW of three-phase 50 Hz 380/220 V system power with an isolated centre, and also a 15 kW mechanical inverter to 3 x 220 V 400 Hz to power the electronic part of the fire control system instrumentation.

In the antenna section, the receiving and transmitting equipment of the fire control system are located on the ejection base:

- circular radar antenna;
- antenna rotation system;
- remote sensing equipment of the optical-electronic channel of target search and tracking .

The system of driving mechanisms of the antenna system allows to arrest it on the fly, to raise and lower it in automatic and manual mode through a hole in the roof of the superstructure, which is covered by a trench during the movement.

The high-frequency energy is fed to the antenna through a special moving waveguide tract.

The high-frequency section also houses the fire control elements:

- transmitting equipment;
- polarization control device;
- waveguide pressure maintenance equipment.

All devices located in the high-frequency section are shielded against HF radiation; the doors are also specially shielded.

In the radio operator section there are:

- primary processing equipment;
- RF receiving equipment;
- digital computer;
- equipment of the radio-telegraph operator's workplace;
- driver's workplace equipment - electromechanics.

The workplace of a radiotelegraph operator includes:

- radio station;
- switching apparatus for internal communication;
- a block of line communication with the A-222 Bereg VZBP combat readiness security vehicle;
- local fan;
- electric stove.

The antenna of the radio station can be folded in the transport position when moving the central command post, for which there is a special control unit in the driver's cab.

The driver's workplace - electromechanics is equipped with:

- a remote control console for the diesel-electric power unit;
- a console for controlling the electrical power supply system;
- crew survival system;
- ventilation system;
- fire extinguishing system.

In the operator's section there are:

- workplace of the commander of the self-propelled coastal artillery complex A-222 Bereg;
- the commander of the central command post of the A-222 Bereg CVS;
- senior officer of the control group;
- artillery electromechanic;
- artillery radioman.

The workplace of the commander of the complex is located:

- navigation equipment;
- communication apparatus;
- signalling apparatus;
- search sight;
- target coordinate transmission system;
- tables for working with topographic maps;
- backup fire control system;
- telephone apparatus for communication with search stations.

To reduce the dead zone of visibility when working with the search sight, the commander can extend it to a higher height by means of a lifting device on the roof of the superstructure.

The commander's workstation of the central command post is equipped with:

- first fire control channel equipment;
- communication apparatus with artillery posts.

The senior's workstation is equipped with:

- Second channel fire control equipment.

The division of artillery equipment into control channels is arbitrary.

The first and second channel target tracking devices are located at the artillery electromechanics and radiometrics stations. The rangefinder control apparatus and the communications and link apparatus are also located there.

To deploy the central command post on uneven surfaces, the superstructure is equipped with special jacks to provide a horizontal position for the precise horizontal plane of rotation of the antenna and TV-laser sight.

Since the jacks are not only electromechanical but also have the possibility of manual raising or lowering, the operator is able to precisely level the entire station even in emergency situations.

In the front part of the superstructure above the cab of the vehicle, two air conditioning units are located:

- one unit is for the instrument ventilation system;
- the second unit is for the crew compartment air conditioning.
