The AN/MTQ-1 is a mobile air defence operations centre designed for operation at a tactical or combat command post. It provides for the collection, evaluation and dissemination of air situation information and, if necessary, direct fire control of assigned anti-aircraft assets.
The operations centre consists of three trailers (semi-trailers), one of which (semi-trailer V-79/G) has its own workplace and the other two contain power units (power generators). The workstation cannot be used during the transfer.
The workstation consists of a VK-4 azimuth indicator, an AN/SPA-41) circular horizon indicator, telephones, a teletype, a planchette (display board), and a radio. The workplace is air-conditioned.
The operations centre does not contain special communications equipment, but facilities are available for its installation.
Data collection and processing are manual, based on phonic information received by telephone (cable) or radio.
There are 3 versions of the operations centre, designated AN/MTQ-1, AN/MTQ-1A and AN/MTQ-1B, which are functionally identical.
