At Dark Field, Admiral Oniši meets Rear Admiral Sugimoto, Commander of the 26th Kóku Kantai, and Admiral Fukudome, Commander of the 2nd Kókú Kantai. They decided that further fighting would be conducted by the air force from Taiwan, where another US invasion was expected.
The Japanese realized that other operations would bring the Americans closer to Japan, and so their next target after Taiwan could be Iwo Jima, or even Okinawa. The island of Kyushu was chosen as the optimal area for the new location of the air force, whose southern coast offered the possibility of intervention in all areas that were to be protected.
