Aufklärungspanzerwagen 38(t) (2 cm)(Sd.Kfz. 140/1)
There are no records of who commissioned BMM to develop this reconnaissance tank. The tank was based on the construction of LT vz.38 (Pz.Kpfw.38 (t)). The superstructure of the tank was modified and the Hängelafette 38 turret (used for example on Sd.Kfz.234 / 1 ), was mounted. This vehicle received a modified engine with increased power. Although Panzer tracts mentions the use of a standard 19-tooth drive wheel, 21 teeth can be counted in the photographs, i.e. a modified design drive wheel was used. A drive wheel with 19 teeth was used in the construction of the model in M 1:1.
70 pieces were produced, of which 37 tanks were accepted by inspectors in 2/1944 and 33 tanks in 3/1944. Of the March delivery of 33 tanks, 20 tanks were received without turrets.
According to the regulations of KAN and K.St.N.1162b dated March 1, 1944, Panzerspähwagenkompanie B was to form 25 tanks Aufklärungspanzerwagen 38 (t) (2 cm) (Sd.Kfz.140 / 1). Nine vehicles were to be equipped with a Fu 12 long-range radio with a star antenna and a shortwave Fu.Spr.Ger.f. The remaining 16 tanks were equipped only Fu.Spr.Ger.f. On April 27, 1944, 25 tanks were sent to the 2nd Company / Aufklärungs-Abteilung Grossdeutschland from Panzergrenadier-Division Grossdeutschland. Another 25 tanks were assigned on September 1, 1944 to 1.Company / Panzer-Aufklärungs-Abteilung 3 from 3.Panzer-Division. Another seven tanks were sent to these units as a replacement for lost tanks. Another machine was delivered to Ersatz-Brigade Grossdeutschland and the unit was sent on April 30, 1944.
