MOD
Avia Ba-33 was created at the instigation of MoD, which wanted the installation of a powerful three-row engine of domestic production Škoda L in the kite BH-33E. Compared to its predecessor, the aircraft received an extended fuselage, increased span, angled landing gear axis and new wing struts in the shape of the letter N. Based on Avie BH-33E the aircraft had a fuselage of mixed construction covered at the front with aluminum sheet at the back of the canvas. The skeleton consisted of steel tubes, reinforced with partitions and wire. The wings were all-wood with a straight leading edge covered with canvas. The tail surfaces covered with canvas were made of both steel tubes - SOP and wood - VOP. The chassis was attached with two struts (front wooden and rear steel). The main tank with a volume of 310 liters was placed in front of the pilot in the fuselage. The armament consisted of 2 machine guns Vickers caliber 7.7 mm later replaced by machine guns vz.28 caliber 7.92 mm. The aircraft carried a supply of ammunition for 500 to 800 rounds. Although the reconstruction itself was still planned by Beneš and Hajn, the final modifications and preparation of production were already being prepared by the new chief designer František Novotný. This forced exchange occurred due to the departure of the legendary design duo to the newly established aviation department of the company Praga. The prototype was flown on October 2, 1929 with a retractable cooler. However, the serial pieces received a front radiator.

The aircraft was characterized by very pleasant and easy piloting, high speed and climbability. Subsequently, 81 pieces were built for the Czechoslovak Air Force, forming the skeleton of our Air Force until the arrival of Avie B-534 in the mid-30s. years of the last century. Although Avia strengthened its position as a supplier of fighter jets, it more or less made it more difficult for it to supply aircraft of other categories. Avia Ba-33 fighters used mainly Air Regiment No. 4 (Hradec Králové) and fighter squadrons of mixed Air Regiments No. 1 "T.G.Masaryka" (Prague-Kbely) and No. 3 "General-Airman M.R. Stefanik".

In the mid-1930s, the aircraft were moved to the aviation school in Prostejov. Thanks to that, several successful pilots of World War II started on it, such as František Peřina, František Chábera and others. During the Munich crisis, they served as second-line replacement fighters. After the occupation, they served as machines for the practical training of technicians. The machines deployed in Slovakia served as training machines of the Slovak state. In 1929, these machines took part in the Small Agreement race, but the aircraft was still suffering from labor pains, so the success of a year ago was not repeated.

An interesting story relates to one copy of Ba-33. He was rehearsing in Manchuria, but was captured by the Japanese army with a rapid movement of the front. The Japanese repaired it and continued to use it in combat. This made the Avia Ba-33 the only machine of Czechoslovak construction used by the Japanese Imperial Air Force.
