I was intrigued by the information about the downed aircraft type "Hamburg" (in original Гамбург) dated 06.05.1944 and so I did a bit of searching for more information. The first clarifying information was the description of this shoot-down in the proposal for the award of the Red Ensign Council of B.T. Akulov (see scan below). In it, the commander of the 6th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment of the Black Sea Fleet (formerly the 8th IAP of the CF), Guards Lieutenant Colonel Mikhail Vasilievich Avdeev, describes, among other things, the shoot-down: 6.05-44, Sevastopol area, GA-138 in pairs. Confirmed by: guards lieutenant Pysin and guards second lieutenant Kazakov. Another clue to the identification of the downed machine was an article in the Ukrainian magazine Aviacija i vremja 4/2003 about the reconnaissance pilot A.D. Karpov, an ace with 6 kills. From this article, and from other sources, it is clear that during the evacuation of German troops from the Crimea in the spring of 1944, Seeaufklärungsgruppe 125 was involved in the evacuation as well as in the rescue and search for downed German (and Soviet) airmen. And it was this unit that had flying boats Blohm & Voss BV 138, which would fit the above, slightly confusing account of the "GA-138" shoot-down. However, I have not yet been able to track down why the designation of the aircraft as "Hamburg" was used in the scouting memo to the higher headquarters. It cannot be ruled out that the "flying clog," as BV 138 was nicknamed, was so designated in the Black Sea Fleet's aviation recognition manuals.

I would welcome any additional information.
