Bratuchin 2MG Omega

Twin-engine helicopter Ivan Pavlovich Bratuchina with the propellers next to each other 2MG Omega originated in the immediately pre-war years, even under the wings of the Moscow aviation institute (МАИ) and the prototype was built in his workshops. Development took place in the period from 4. march 1940, when it became award of the council of people's commissars on its design, 27. July 1940 was approved by the project and in August 1941, the prototype was dohotoven in the workshops of MAI (МАИ).

This machine should become the starting point for a number of specialized helicopters: a machine for control artillery fire or fighter submarines. It was assumed that after the completion of the basic design of a helicopter on it will be placed and the system of armament, including four machine guns of 12.7 mm in one gun turret and cannon caliber 20 mm in the second. The fuselage of the helicopter had the shape of a plane with a complete tail. Construction welded from steel pipes, upholstery cloth.
In the front part of the fuselage was created the cabin for the pilot and the observer, sitting behind in the same overlapping. Into the cabin they embarked the door of the automotive type on the right side of the fuselage.

The side trusses are borne gondolas with reducers and license air-cooled row engines of the MV-6 with a rated output of 220 horsepower. Assembly motor, reducer and the propeller were connected to each other shafts enabling power transmission in the event of failure of one engine. The right engine was turning the propeller clockwise, the left counterclockwise. This will eliminate the rotational moment, thereby odpadala the need for tail rotor. During the take-off weight 2050 kg and a diameter of the supporting propeller 7 m (their discs are overlapping) entailed a specific load on area of a radius of the propeller in take-off weight of the machine 2050 kg approximately 27 kg/m2 - at the period of the helicopters was the value of the factors usually one and a half to two times smaller.

Wheeled chassis was a four-point, nose and tail wheel under the fuselage and after one round under each chain of the gondola.

Because the advance of German troops threatened the further course of development and testing, it was necessary to relocate the OKB in the asian part of the former USSR, specifically in Alma-Aty (Алма-Ата).

This will work on the machine significantly slowed down. Nevertheless, during the flight tests conducted by the test pilot. Also. Ponomariov (К.И. Пономарев) and the chief engineer of D. T. Macickij (Д.Т. Мацицкй) in the summer of 1943 in the Kazakhstan, (the ambient air temperature was 55 degrees Celsius), the helicopter successfully conducted a smooth take-off and landing, was a good and reliable to use, the satisfaction of flying at speeds of up to 115 km/hr when the amount of the flight up to 150 m. the Flight test of the helicopter managed to end the year 1945. The helicopter was approved for serial production which has not occurred.

The successful design of the helicopter led to the people's commissar for the aviation industry And. Also. Šachurina (А.И. Шахурин) to the decision to create in January 1944 under the Bratuchinovým the leadership of the new OKB with the number 3. The OKB-3 should continue in the development of the Omega, especially its military versions G-3 and G-4, later přeznačených by the name of the designer on the B-3 and B-4
