Chengdu J-7 (Jian-7, 歼 -7) - fighter aircraft developed by reverse engineering from the Soviet type MiG-21F-13.

Type 62 (later Shenyang J-7) - a copy of the MiG-21F-13 made in 12 pieces by the Air Plant in Shenyang on the basis of components supplied from the USSR in 1961 (the original intention was licensed production), the first aircraft manufactured in 1965, the second (No. 0002) in 1966. Serial production since 1967. Continuously modernized, Western sources are modernized machines called J-7 (modified).


Chengdu J-7 I - version developed in 1969-1975 from J-7, in production since 1976. Part of the machines continuously modernized, Western sources are modernized machines marked J-7I ( modified).


Chengdu J-7 II - version developed in the late 70's of the 20th century, the first mass-produced version in larger numbers. First takeoff in 12/1978, certification completed 12/1979.


Chengdu J-7 IIA - model with modified avionics (using acquired technologies of developed western countries), first takeoff 07.03.1984.


Chengdu J-7 IIH (later only J-7H) - the latest serial version based on type J-7II, first takeoff in 03/1985.


Chengdu J-7 IIM - conversion of J-7II to F-7M export version level


Chengdu J-7 IIK - conversion of J-7II to F-7MP/F-7P level


Chengdu J-7 III (later renamed to J-7C) - version created on the basis of the Soviet type MiG-21MF (the aircraft was acquired by China probably from Egypt in 02/1979), development began in 05/1979 and was completed in 05/1980. Tests completed in 04/1984, first takeoff 26.04.1984.


Chengdu J-7D (original designation J-7 IIIA, or J-7 IV) - modernization of J-7 III carried out at the turn of the 80s and 90s of the 20th century (beginning in 1988, first takeoff 20.08.1991). Serial production from 11/1994, included in the equipment in 1995.



Chengdu J-7E - the third generation of the J-7 fighter based on the J-7 II kite with reworked wings and new electronic equipment . The first takeoff in 05/1990 and flight tests completed by 1992. In the armament of the Chinese Air Force and Naval Air Force introduced in 1995.


Chengdu J-7EH - naval version adapted to carry anti-ship missiles (eg C-802). The aircraft serves only as a rocket carrier, there must be another aircraft in the area (eg Harbin SH-5 or Shaanxi Y -8X.


Chengdu J-7G - Modernization of J-7E develops in 2002.


Guizhou JJ-7 - training two-digit version (equivalent to MiG-21U)


Guizhou JJ-7 I - several machines with HTY-2 seats


Guizhou JJ-7 II - small series with avionics ROckwell Collins


Guizhou JJ-7A - extended variant similar to FT-7P


Export versions:
Chengdu F-7A - J-7 I exported to Albania


Chengdu F-7B - export version J-7 II, first takeoff 16.05.1982.


Chengdu F-7M Airguard - export version J-7II equipped with avionics derived from the supplies of the British company GEC-Marconi (among other things equipped also on-board computer and HUD). First takeoff in 08/1983, certification in 11/1984. An upgraded version of the F-7MP flew June 9, 1988. Serial production since 1985 for Bangladesh, Iran, Myanmar and Zimbabwe.


Chengdu F-7MB - F-7M with different avionics for Bangladesh.


Chengdu F-7P Skybolt - version derived from F-7M for Pakistan.


Chengdu F-7MP - upgraded F-7P with Grifo II radar.


Chengdu F-7MG - export version of J-7E, introduced in 1996.


Chengdu F-7PG - export version of J-7E for Pakistan.


Chengdu F-7BG - Export version of F-7PG for Bangladesh.


Chengdu F-7NM - export version of J-7G for Namibia.


Chengdu F-7N - export version of F-7M for Iran.


Chengdu F-7NI - export version of F-7PG for Nigeria.


Chengdu F-7 IIN - export version of F-7M for Zimbabwe.


Guizhou FT-7 - export version JJ-7.


Guizhou FT-7A - conversion MiG-21U to FT-7 standard for Egypt.


Guizhou FT-7B - export version JJ-7 II.


Guizhou FT-7M - training export version of F-7M.


Guizhou FT-7P - practice export version of F-7P for Pakistan.


Guizhou FT-7PG - practice export version of F-7PG for Pakistan.


Guizhou FT-7BG - practice export version of F-7BG for Bangladesh.


Guizhou FT-7NG - export version of FT-7PG for Namibia.


Guizhou FT-7NI - practice export version of F-7NI for Nigeria.
