Zákonem ze dne 15.června 1926 byla zřízená tato medaile, určená pro účastníky makedonského tažení. Po Rakousko-Uherské okupaci Srbska a vstupu Bulharska do války na straně Trojspolku bylo nutno zřídit i bojiště na makedonské frontě. Velitelem byl ustanoven generál Mauricie Sarrail. Francouzi kryli ústup srbské armády a sváděli těžké boje s oddíly rakouskouherské armády a hlavně bulharskými jednotkami. Po vstupu Řecka do války na straně Dohody se situace mění a dnem 11 .listopadu 1918 byly boje ukončeny. Generála Saraaila v průběhu bojů vystřídal generál Franchet d´Esperey.


Pamětní východní medaile je shodná s medaili Dardanelskou s tím rozdílem, že na rubní straně místo nápisu Dardaneles se nachází nápis ORIENT. Stuha je rozdílná. Je průvlečná, modrá se širčím středním žlutým pruhem a užšími žlutými postranními proužky.
