I'm not sure if the village of Schleissheim belongs administratively to Munich or if it is a separate municipality. Either way, it's on the northern edge of Munich (which is why I'm leaving Munich in the title), and in addition to a beautiful castle, there's also a beautiful aviation museum.
Schleissheim Airport, on whose land the museum was built, has a rich history. It has served both civilian and military purposes, training fighter pilots and bomber crews during World War II, and night fighters since 1943. During the Cold War it was a helicopter base used jointly by the US and German armies. Currently, the airport is used only for sport flying.
From Munich city centre, Schleissheim can be reached by the S-bahn, line S1, station Oberschleissheim. The train stops at the opposite end of the village from the museum and airport, so we have to walk about 1 km through a quiet residential area, past the castle (signs will indicate) and a few steps behind the castle is the entrance to the museum. One more little note about the S1 line, because there is a tricky thing... the line splits into S1 and U2 one station before Oberschleissheim. The train set also splits in half, with the front cars going one way and the rear cars the other. So you need to listen to the informative announcements on the train, I think they are in English as well.
Opening hours: daily 09:00 - 17:00, except on certain holidays - see the museum's website
The main part of the exhibition traces the history of flying in Germany. Flying machines from the early 20th century to space technology (the failed Europa rocket from the 1970s) are represented, from civilian machines to military and experimental ones. The museum owns several rarities and unique items, such as the Horten H IV glider-wing from 1943, the Dornier Do 24 tri-engine flying boat (1944), the Indian HAL Marut designed by Kurt Tank, the prototype of the Egyptian jet HA-300 (designed by Willy Messerschmitt for a change), or the impressive experimental aircraft with VTOL characteristics Dornier Do 31 and VFW VAK 191B.

Navigace me ale dovedla bezpecne do cile. Puvodni budovu s hangárem, velitelskou budovu s věží a velkou novou prosklenou budovu.

Naposledy letel v roce 1970. Restaurovan byl v letech 2000-2009. Tolik ve zkratce rika cedule v muzeu.
