MEDAL OF MERIT
DISTINGUISHED SERVICE MEDAL (POLICE DISTINGUISHED SERVICE ORDER)
The Medal of Merit was authorized under the Israel Police Distinguished Service Medal Law in 1972. It is awarded for service in the Israel Police, distinguished by exceptional contribution to the performance of police duties, through exceptional achievement, perseverance, tenacity, or exemplary dedication.
The medal was designed by Nathan Karp. It is minted by the Israeli Mint (Israel Government Coins and Medals Corporation).
Design
The medallion, made of metal, is circular in shape with a 1/2 Star of David on its right side (or left side when the observer is flying). An olive branch fills the other half of the medal, following the curvature of the medal and connecting the lower and upper points of the star. In the center of the 1/2-star is a hexagon, within which is circled a police star. The buckle is made of chrome plated metal.
The buckle
is blue in color, and is divided lengthwise (vertically) into 2 halves by a thin white stripe.
