Ernst Ludwig Kaserne's barracks were built on Eschollbrücker Straße in 1937-1938 (see green circle on the 2001 map). They were named in honor of Grand Duke Ernest-Ludwig Hessen ( Großherzog Ernst-Ludwig von Hessen und bei Rhein, 1868 - 1937). The barracks were dimensioned for the needs of a pedestrian battalion in a rectangular shape with a central courtyard, and a forest was preserved around the barracks. After the end of World War II, the barracks were occupied by the American Armed Forces, which increased the barracks to 11.1 hectares.
In 1992, it was decided that the US Army would leave the barracks, which happened in 1996. After their civilization, a housing estate grew on the site of the former barracks.
