Esakdra 40-T was built as a temporary structure, which was off the coast of Spain at the time of the Spanish civil war to monitor the situation, to protect american interests and to evacuate american citizens. The squadron during its existence visited a variety of ports in the Atlantic and the Mediterranean.

The squadron consisted of:

  • light cruiser Raleigh (CL-7)
  • destroyer Kane (DD-235)
  • destroyer Hatfield (DD-231)
  • that cutter CGC Cayuga

Light cruiser Raleigh, which served as the flagship of the commander esakdry, at the end of April 1938 replaced the light cruiser Omaha (CL-4).
