FBA Type D Cannon

The French were the first who believed in the value of the fighter aircraft armed with cannon. Between them they belonged to types Breguet In, VI and XII and also Voisin Voi.4, which accounted for the class D. The specifications of this class required an aircraft capable of a maximum speed of 125 km/h and the output to 2000 m in 14 minutes, a variant specification for the fight with the airships should have a maximum speed of 120 km/h and up to 2000 m should get in 17 minutes. All these aircraft were of frame construction, with a pusher engine mounted at the rear of the ttrupové gondolas and pohiblivým cannon Hotchkiss in the bow. Louis Schreck was also part of the design kanonové fighters, went on, however, a completely different way. For this purpose he used a flying boat FBA type H the serial number 101. From him took wing, but joined the new wooden skořepinovému hull. That, although the new machine had to be a flying boat, has retained more or less člunovitý shape, with the wheels attached directly to the fuselage, which was amplified by the form of the flying boats (located on the transport chassis, of course). The tail surfaces were conventional, similar to the tail of the Nieuport 28.
The engine used was the Hispano-Suiza 8A, which was in 1917, replaced basically schodným more powerful Hispano-Suiza 8Aa. With him, despite the strange appearance, the Type of D (or, according to the military designation of the FBA 1 Ca.2) without too much trouble surpassing the desired speed, with the speed of the output but it was worse. Limited field of fire of the gun firmly placed in the bow, and the availability of kanonových Voisinů then were probably the reason why he wasn't FBA a D-type ordered into production and remained in a single piece.
