FBA Type C

At the end of 1915, after the sinking of the Lusitania the submarine U-20, a surge of interest in anti-submarine aircraft. Andre Beaumont was therefore released again námořni ctvem and sent to Argenteuil, to help develop new anti-submarine seaplane. The prototype of the FBA type C appeared in September 1915. Physically from type B did not differ much, only the rudder with a round leading edge and engine of the Clerget on the performance of 130 hp. Type C was faster than "b", at the level of the sea mastered the 110 km/h and climbed to a height of 3500 m for 30 minutes. It was built in larger numbers than both the previous models FBA together and served even after the end of the war, on training bases Aéronavale. Due to ease of operation on the bases were the wings of a newly hinged. Armament formed a movable machine gun on the bow and shooter/observer was also in charge of the four bombs of type B or D of 22 kg.

The threat of submarines in the English channel and the North sea was so great that the admiralty 1. November 1915 ordered the first 50 FBA C and in the summer of the following year, another 50. This allowed a massive increase in the number of squadrons of the navy and also bases. The four stations of naval aviation open in the years 1914-1915 were added yet in 1916, six of the other, inter alia, in Marseille, and Lorient, and in 1917, 11 including Cherbourg, Dieppe and Algiers. Although in his original role of the FBA Type C nepotopily no sub, definitely a few cool their enthusiasm. Several machines had allegedly also serve on the carrier seaplanes Campinas, serving in the field of egyptian Port Said. When 25. in march 1917, was established by the ministry of the navy training base in Saint-Raphaël, Rochefort and Hourtinu, was given also a large amount of the FBA type C, which by that time were already in first line service, replaced by a more efficient Type H. In October 1918, in Hourtinu served right 80 c and in Saint-Raphaël also. Indeed, in 1917, accounted for more than half of all French training seaplanes. After the war they were in training units used ž in 1924, when it replaced the FBA Type 17 and Lioré et Olivier H-13.

For the French navy, was built 180 machines. But france wasn't the only user – a large number of machines purchased by Italy, which is used as a counterweight to austrian Lohnerům. Those, ironically, were created as a copy of the Donnet-Leveqů, whose further development a number of FBA... the Italians have taken up to 120 pieces, a few more then had to build the Italian company SIAI, than switched to a more powerful FBA Type H. Another user was Russia, which had purchased 20 machines. As described in the history of the FBA Type B, around the service of flying boats FBA in the imperial navy, there are large differences. For Russian c is ample photographic evidence, on the contrary, lacks any evidence for license to manufacture, yet James Davilla argue that Lebeděvův race built 34 machines – and the same thing about FBA type B. In any case, the Russian FBA served in the Baltic fleet.

Factory FBA tentatively rebuilt one engine on a twin-engine, with two 100 hp engines Gnome in a compression arrangement. In addition got a new tail surfaces with the rudder-shaped "commas", i.e. "," and with the other vertical surfaces located between the wings. That didn't pan out, the further development went the way of the use of a larger engine power, namely Hispano-Suiza 8Aa about 150 horses. Thus arose the FBA type H. Sources indicate that in the races in Argenteuil and Vernon was between the end of 1915 and early 1918 built over 330 FBA Type C. In 1916, typically in Argenteuil built 35 machines per month.
