After taking power, the Nazis started the process of glazing social and political life. The fire brigade did not escape this phenomenon in the Third Reich. It began in Prussia, where in 1933 firefighters were incorporated under the police in Prussia. This created the fire police, which took on a virtually unofficial name Feuerlöschpolizei. In 1936, the Imperial Ministry of the Interior issued a decree calling on individual countries to reorganize firefighters according to the Prussian model.
In 1938, another step was taken. By law of 23 November, fire protection matters were transferred from the provincial level to the imperial level. All professional firefighters became part of the German police. The reason for this move was the expectation that the impending war would threaten enemy air raids. Central control was to bring greater efficiency in combating the consequences of bombing.
In 1938, a fire protection police was established. Within the German police, it fell organizationally under the order police. Members of the fire protection police received police ranks.
