The rank of field general of the artillery was originally the artillery ranks, which was reserved for the commander in chief of the artillery. This was previously referred to also as the senior field general of the artillery, colonel field general of the artillery (Obrist-Feldzeugmeister) or a general, field general of the artillery (General-Feldzeugmeister).

Later, this rank is applied more widely for those generals who served in the infantry, artillery and technical troops. At the same level was the rank of general of cavalry, which was awarded to the generals serving in the cavalry. In 1908 was introduced analogous to the rank of general of the infantry, which replaced the rank of field general of the artillery for the generals serving at the infantry.

Field zbrojmistři and the generals ' drive to serve primarily as commanders of higher volumes (i.e. the choir, possibly the army).
