Strength cap Tonale was built to defend the road leading from the pass of the Tonale valley of Val di Sole to the Vermiglia and further inland. This task should fulfil prvosledové armored forty Werk Tonale and Werk Season, the intermediate machine gun blockhouse Zwischenwerk Mero and druhosledový stone uzávěrový fort Straßensperre Strino with the advance position Fort Velon. A possible penetration of the enemy to the north center of the valley of Val del Monte was to prevent the small stone fort (blockhouse) Blockhaus Pejo.

In the spring of 1915 were the objects of cap occupied by members of the following units:
- field section regiment of the provincial shooters no II
- 1. and 2. company a battalion of the fortress artillery no 7

In the course of the war withstand all forty in the valley of Val di Sole the shelling of the heavy artillery and the attacks of the infantry. Into Italian hands were lifted only after the surrender of the austro-Hungarian army in November 1918.
