  • Decolonization of Southeast Asia

After World War II, a wave of nationalism swept through Asia, as a result of which many nations declared their independence from the colonial powers. The post-war growth of nationalism and the rapid decolonization were the result of several factors. World War II itself meant enormous exhaustion for the colonial powers, which meant a loss of control over the colonies. Another factor was the emergence of domestic intelligence, which studied at Western universities and demanded democracy, self-government and the right to self-determination. In some cases, colonial nations participated as allies in the war and contributed to the victory of freedom - and they wanted it for themselves after the war. Another element that manifested itself in Asia was Japan's contribution to the demise of European colonies. On the one hand, Japan lost its own colonies, and on the other, it promoted and encouraged national movements that opposed the restoration of European domination after the war. Britain reacted more promptly than France and the Netherlands to the strength of the independence movement and began the process of decolonization. However, we cannot forget the US pressure and example when they granted independence to one of their colonies, the Philippines, in 1946. However, some powers have decided to resist these movements. The wars waged by France and the Netherlands to regain control of their colonies in Southeast Asia only confirmed this fact.

  • Diplomatic activities during the War of the Spanish Succession

At the end of the 17th century, the question of succession to the childless Charles II came to the attention of European rulers. The confiscation of the Spanish heritage would upset the balance on the European continent ...

  • The time of the palace coups in Russia in the 18th century

The old customs and orders of succession were shattered by the death of Emperor Alexei. Traditional succession rights were also violated by Peter's decree, which reserved the right to appoint a successor himself. And so the autocracy became a victim of the forces it had created. For 37 years after the death of Peter I, the tsar was decided by the guard, ie the political forces that were able to win the guard to their side.

  • Conquest of Siberia

Another important event dates back to the end of Ivan the Terrible government - the attack of the Cossack ataman Jermak Timofejevič behind the Stone Belt, behind the Urals. Jermak's Cossacks were not the first Russians to invade Siberia. We know that the power of the Republic of Novgorod reached in the 13th century. to the northern Urals. After the fall of Novgorod, his large territory was seized by the Prince of Moscow.

  • Ivan IV. Terrible - A murderer and a Christian on the throne

The large boyar and princely families were in the 14th and 15th centuries supporters and opponents of the Moscow dynasty. The power of the great prince of Moscow protected them from devastating local wars and raids by nomads, but at the same time they sought to participate in this power. In this ambiguous relationship of boyars to the monarch clearly prevailed after the death of Vasily III. (1533) Respect for the Authority of the Throne. They stood up for his then three-year-old son Ivan, and even after the death of his mother Jelena Glinská (she was poisoned in 1538 ), they did not leave him. They ruled on his behalf, they enriched themselves, but they did not allow the right of a minor monarch to be questioned. Both uncles of little Ivan - Yuri and Andrei, brothers Vasily III. - They ended up in a famine. This boy's allegiance to little Ivan was primarily the work of their egoism, which commanded the support of a ruler who could not rule himself. This opened the way for powerful families to unrestricted oligarchic government.

  • Jacobite movement in Hungary

From a political and ideological point of view, the Jacobin movement means the culmination of a social struggle that flared up under the Great French Revolution, but this movement was able to capture only the narrowest sections of society, not only because it went furthest in its radicalism, but also because it originated when the movement the middle nobility has already ended, and even one of the conditions for the establishment of the republican movement was the failure of the middle nobility movement and its compromise with the king.

  • Cossacks and the annexation of Ukraine

The region of Ukraine was a territory that had been the subject of disputes between Russia and Poland for many years. In this fight, one could talk about an old acquaintance - Where the two fight, the third one wins. The Cossacks, who wanted to break free from Polish power and gain independence, eventually came under Russian rule.

  • Hungarization

In the system of dualism, which arose as a result of the retreat of central political power to Hungarian militant nationalism, the process begun in full at the end of the 18th century, namely the process of systematic Hungarianization of individual state and ecclesiastical bodies and institutions. He penetrated into all spheres of life, which had a negative impact on non-Hungarian nationalities living in Hungary.

  • Marshal Bernadotte (Part 1) - Service in the Army

Great French Revolution brought to the world not only the image of the struggle of the people against hated regime, but also a multitude of heroes and personalities for whom it became a stepping stone to glory. The Grande Armée became a kind of "seedbed" for these emerging heroes who fought valiantly for their ideals. If they were really successful, they rose rapidly through the military hierarchy, and as their fortunes increased, their ideals later were replaced by a lust for power. Some began to hatch their own plans, to pursue their goals, and no longer pursued their military service with the same zeal as in the Revolution. A very controversial figure among Napoleon's of Napoleon's marshals was Jean-Baptiste Jules Bernadotte.

  • Marshal Bernadotte (Part 2) - Charles XIV. Johan

After he gained the status of a Bonaparte family man, his self-esteem soared. Despite hesitations in the Grand Army and the favour of Napoleon, the Swedish Estates brought him to the royal crown, and he later turned his back on the man who had enabled him to further his life's career.

After the death of Peter I the Great Russia had time to take a break from expensive wars, which were replaced by intermezzo in the form of castle upheavals. But at the time of arrival of Catherine II. on the throne this huge empire was again drawn into europeans wars.

  • The response of the Great French Revolution in Hungary and Slovakia

The spiritual life of almost all of Europe since the middle of the 18th century has been greatly influenced - after scholasticism, humanism and the Reformation - by a new ideological wave - the Enlightenment, which created cracks in the integrity of feudalism and became the worldview of an advanced, progressive, radical and revolutionary society. Enlightenment scholars had a lion's share in the ideological preparations for the Great French Revolution ( MFF ).

  • Peter I. the Great - Government reforms

The reign of the second Romanov on the imperial throne, Alexei Mikhailovich ( 1645 - 1676 ), was characterized by some historians as the period of the fading Russian Middle Ages. Beneath the surface of this outwardly slow life of the great Eastern Empire, however, changes took place that foreshadowed the onset of a new age. In this contradictory environment, in which the signs of the necessary reforms were already announced, Tsarich Peter , the fourteenth child of Tsar Alexei, was born on May 30, 7180, since the creation of the world (1672). Of the five imperial sons, only three survived their father (Fyodor and Ivan from the first, Peter from the second marriage).

  • Garrisons and barracks in Slovakia in the years 1848 - 1914

The introduction of general military duty, and the related need for accommodation and training of the mass army, had the largest share in the construction of barracks in the 19th century. In the last decades of the 19th century, there was a sharp increase in the construction of new type barracks, which to a much greater extent met modern requirements.

  • The Last Queen of Anju, Mary of Hungary (1371 - 1395)

The life story of the Hungarian Queen Mary is one of the saddest and most tragic in the history of the Anju dynasty. Fate gave her only 24 years to live. She was the first woman to enter the history of Hungary to ascend the throne of St. Stephen. Although it reached the top of the feudal pyramid, others ruled instead. Thanks to them, she became part of a chain of bloody dramas, which significantly contributed to the seriousness and pensive nature of her nature.

The aim of this work is to clarify the circumstances of the Austro - Hungarian settlement as well as the essence of the state and government system after 1867, which gave the Hungarian government enormous powers, which began to form the conditions for a new stage of national oppression in our history - Hungarianization.

  • Russia since the death of Ivan IV. till the first Romanov

The word tsar was an irrevocable law. The new ruler then became the unhealthy 28 - year - old Fyodor, whose rightful place was in a monastery cell or church rather than on a throne. The violent father broke his - otherwise with Fyodor's dull intellect not too firm - his will so perfectly that he never, even as a tsar, became a completely independent man again.

  • Russia under Tatar rule

In this work, I present a picture of the history of Russia since the defeat of Russian troops at Kalka, which the Russians came under Mongol rule for more than 2 centuries, and which Russia in the form of fragmented statesmen could not face. Once again, it is necessary to point out the validity of the motto Virtus Unita Fortior, ie there is strength in Unity, and only the gradual unification of Russian territories led to the final break-out from the yoke of the Golden Horde.

  • Military aspects of the summer volunteer expedition

The events that Hurban expressed as follows at the Slavic Congress were fulfilled: " If the Hungarians give us what belongs, it is not possible ... to stand against them with a sword. When they allow the Serbs what they want, they also do not draw their sword. For they would be put to shame in front of the whole world. If the Hungarians do not give, then, of course, the fight. "

  • Military aspects of the september volunteer expedition

The revolutionary movement that swept Europe in 1848-1849 was a manifestation of the culminating crisis of the existing political and social system, a milestone in the transition from feudalism to capitalism, a profound intervention in the process of bourgeois transformation of most states on the European continent. In the revolutions of this period, unresolved issues of a national nature, the pursuit of national equality, originality, state independence and a freer national life in all its spheres played a major role in many countries, including Hungary. The nation became one of the most important attributes of the time, and the masses tried to enforce their own demands by using revolutionary, especially armed, means. A new era was expected to begin. In this sense, the revolution of 1848-1849 was a real " spring of nations ."

  • Military aspects of the winter volunteer expedition

Slovak society entered the revolutionary events in a largely undeveloped form. At a time when the Slovak nobility was being nationalized, the Slovak intelligentsia became the main representative of the national movement. March's revolutionary events also had a strong impact in Slovakia, and Slovaks welcomed the " spring of nations " full of hopes and expectations. The culmination of their efforts and demands became the St. Nicholas Requests of the Slovak Nation, to which, however, the Pest government responded by persecuting the authors of the St. Nicholas Assembly and issuing an arrest warrant for J.M. Hurban, M.M. Hodža and Ľ. Štúr. The alternative of a possible agreement with the Hungarian government has reached a dead end.
