K-6 Transport Seaplane
In late 1922 Eiji Sekiguchi started on the design of a more practical seaplane transport on reports obtained from Germany. This was an entirely new design without vertical fin, and the rudder only extending below the fuselage. The passenger compartment for two was an open cockpit, later to be enclosed. New seaplane was completed in November 1923. The K-6 was built for the use of Nippon Koku KK, an airline owned by Kawanishi, as a seaplane transport. However, soon after the completion of the aeroplane, it was decided to use it for the Around-japan Flight sponsored jointly by Nippon Koku KK and Daimai Tonichi Shirnbun. On the seaplane adjustments were made for the eventual by installing additional fuel tanks, repositioning the radiator, adding outrigger floats, and small fins to the lower surface of the tail plane. The seaplane was named Harukaze (Spring Wind). The modified K-6 performed very well, but construction of additional aircraft was not undertaken because the more refined K-7 seaplane was already being planned. The K-6 was returned to its original purpose as a transport.

Airplane Hitorium:

Kawanishi K-6 cargo/cargo floatplane.

Kawanishi Kikai Seisakusho's chief designer, engineer Eiji Sekiguchi, began work on a more successful floatplane project than the failed Kawanishi K-5 in late 1922. In the project he concentrated on better stability and easier control of the aircraft, and in addition he took maximum account of the experience of the German designers in Göttingen.
The wingspan and wing profile was identical to the K-5, but in reality it was a completely new design, as revealed by the absence of a vertical tailplane and rudder, with only a faint hint of this under the rear fuselage. There were only two passengers and their cabin was initially open and later, after a retrofit, it was closed.
The new floatplane was completed in November 1923 and was immediately flown. The Kawanishi K-6 was intended for the Nippon Koku K company. K., this airline was a subsidiary of Kawanishi. Soon after the completion of the aircraft, the decision was made to use the aircraft for flights around Japan under the sponsorship of Nippon Koku K. K, and the Daimai Tonichi Shimbun press company. For this purpose, modifications were made to accommodate the possible installation of additional fuel tanks, the liquid cooler was moved to a more aerodynamically advantageous position, and a small SOP was installed under the tail of the aircraft.

The aircraft was named Harukaze - Spring Wind (Jap.) Between 23 and 31 July, the first such flight took place, starting in Osaka, continuing through the cities of Kagoshima, Hakata, Kanazawa, Akita, Minato, Kasumigaura, Yokkaichi, and returning to Osaka. The aircraft was piloted by Yukichi Goto and flight engineer Minezoo Jonezawa, during this flight a distance of 4,390 km was flown and the actual flight time was 33 hours 48 minutes at an average speed of 137 km/h.
At the end of that year, the K-6 won the seaplane competition, flying three circuits totaling 853 km in 6.5 hours.
The design of the K-6 proved to be very good, but further construction of these aircraft was not proceeded with, the reason being simple - a more sophisticated successor K-7A was on the horizon.
The K-6 returned to its original purpose and for this purpose its rear seats were returned, this time to the closed cockpit.
