Gustav Klasing was born 10. march 1884 in the Trieste. He went to high school in Klagenfurth, Austria. In 1902 he was accepted into the navy as a Seeaspirant. Day 1. February 1904 he was appointed Seekadett II. Klasse. Served on ships.M.With. Radetzky, Monarch, Custoza and Tegetthoff as a cadet - signalman. Day 5. march 1907 he got on With.M.With. St. Georg (under the command of the Linienschiffskapitän Ludwig Ritter von Höhnel), who sailed on the solemn ceremony to America. Then from September 1907 he suffered a torpedo course on the With.M.With. Alpha. 1. of may 1908 is promoted to a Fregattenleutnant. For the disease and the subsequent vacation he joined the service as a second officer on a pt boat With.M.With. Buzzard on the base in the Trieste to 13. September 1908. In September 1909 he was transferred to With.M.With. Krake (commander of the Linienschiffsleutnant Wilhelm Potsh), where he served as third officer. He also served on the battleships With.M.With. Kronprinz Erzherzog Rudolf and With.M.With. Kronprinzensiin Stefanie. Day 6. June 1911 he joined the service on submarines in the Field. Following submarine course (training) he was assigned on board With.M.In. 3 (commander Richard Gstettner). Day 1. November he was promoted to Linienschiffsleutnant.

But tempted him, also flying, so in 1913 he had 3 air course in Wiener Neustadt. The pilot diploma no. 130, he has been issued 13. August 1913. But by the end of 1913 he was listed as the commanding officer of the spare crew With.M.In. 3 and 4. The start of the war he served as an officer on With.M.With. Pelikan. To 23. October 1914 he was drafted into the air force in the town of Pula and subsequently sent to the base Kumbor.

Day 8. June 1915 managed to Linienschiffsleutnant Gustav Klasing and observer Fregattenleutnant Johann Fritsch von Cronenwald on the airplane l48 gun of Seefliegerstation Pola (flying into the Fiume today Rijeka) setřelit Italian vzducholď Citta di Ferrara M-2 under the command of lieutenant Vascello di Castuccio Castracane (+ 8 men crew). She was at the spátečním flight from nálatu at Fiume, which caused only minor damage and one victim. Captain vzduchplodi he first tried to escape the output to the height, and later sat down with the airship on the surface and sped across the water. The crew of a flying boat l48 gun first tried the airship to shoot down the fire from the machine gun, after firing of personal weapons (ran out of machine-gun bullets) and finally they set her on fire a flare gun (kal. 04, caliber 26.5 mm). The attack began at 5:15 in ostrava Asinello. The airship in the subsequent fire crashed into the sea, where they managed to torpédovce save the crew except for two men who drowned. For this action he was awarded the Order of the iron crown III. class.

Day 9. November 1915 flew with the machine L46 with the observer Returned, with its sister L42 (pilot Drakulic, the observer Pacher) to attack the enemy aircraft which attacked the base in the Trieste. The Mula di Muggia spotted enemy submarine. He started over to her, circling, but then for the engine failure he had to make an emergency landing, flying boat, however, was destroyed. After a while, an enemy submarine approached to the shipwrecked. To captivity, however, has not occurred. Torpedo boat přispěchavší of Trieste enemy submarine destroyed and Linienschiffsleutnant Klasing, along with an observer Navrátil saved.

29. march 1916 on a flying boat L 46 together with the observer von Musil and with L67 (Molnar, Lettner) attacked the british submarine B9 Rushbrooke bombs, the struggle shooting from the machine gun. Then dived and escaped the sinking into the deeper waters.

26. August 1916 he had an accident with the A10, this flying boat is overturned, but Linienschiffsleutnant Klasing escaped unharmed. In September he was appointed commander of the Seeflugstation Pola-Santa Catarina.

On Monday, 6. November 1916 he was killed in a test flight when piloting a giant flying boat Grosskampfflugboot G5. After the ceremonial start of the Pulské of the bay G5 crashed over Fažanským channel and landed on the coast of the dwelling house. In the wreckage of the flying boat were killed except for Linienschiffsleutnant Gustav Klasing and Fregattenleutnant Hely Nicora, Fregattenleutnant Stanislav Kaaba (*1893, a Czech who joined the navy in 1912). It was already the second disaster of this airplane, which occurred after a year from the first.

Notes:
Unfortunately, the Austro - Hungarian pilots do not have primacy in the form of the first downed airship. The first airship shot down aircraft, was shot down just a day before this meeting 7. June 1915 on the western front. Canadian pilot F/SLt R. And. J. Warneford with the aircraft Morane-Saulnier L Parasol (number 3253) shot down a German airship LZ.37 returning from a raid on the railroad in the vicinity of Calais. Warneford received for this action the Victoria Cross. He died, however, already 18. June 1915.

Second, the Italian airship Citta di Jesi was shot down in the night of the 5th. 6. August 1915 over Pulou anti-aircraft fire. Since Italy no airship on a bombing - attack action isn't.


In a crash aeroplane G5 Linienschiffsleutnant Gustav Klasing and Fregattenleutnant Hely Nicora in the wreckage of the aircraft burned to death, Fregattenleutnant Stanislav Kaaba from an aeroplane fell out and killed on impact with the rocks on the coast.
