Major General in memoriam Alexander Korda was born on 18 April 1907 in Vrútki. Alexander Korda entered military service on 1 October 1927 with Artillery Regiment 201 in Ruzomberok. From there he was sent to the School for Reserve Officers of Mountain Artillery in Domažlice. After graduating with the rank of sergeant-aspirant, he was accepted as a cadet at the Military Academy in Hranice, Moravia, on 23 August 1929. He successfully graduated from the school on 26 July 1931 as an artillery lieutenant, with a predestination to the 7th Battery of Artillery Regiment 1 in Prague-Ruzyně as a subaltern officer. Later he was posted as a search officer in the 4th Battery in Ruzyně and from 1 October 1934 in the 7th Battery of Artillery Regiment 1 in Bílina. On 1 October 1935 he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant. From 1 October 1936 his military career continued in Artillery Regiment 8 in Místek and from the end of September 1937 in Artillery Regiment 4 in Josefov.

At the time of the general mobilization measures of the Czechoslovak Armed Forces, from 23 September to 13 October 1938, he commanded the 3rd Battery of Artillery Regiment 35, which was in the 35th Frontier Area "Vítězslav" with an operational area in the Eagle Mountains. As of 1 November 1938, he was assigned to the 2nd Intelligence Department of the 39th Frontier Area "Rafael" headquarters in Galanta. In this service he was stationed in Dunajská Streda, after the Vienna Arbitration in Hlohovec, Trnava and Bratislava. As of 1 January 1939, he took command of the battery of Artillery Regiment 9 in Bratislava.

After the establishment of the Slovak State, Alexander Korda was appointed to the post of detachment and reserve detachment commander of Artillery Regiment 9 in Trnava on 15 March 1939. On 17 May 1939 he was promoted to captain of artillery and on 7 July he was transferred to Artillery Regiment 4 in Kežmarok. On 1 October 1939, Captain Korda was appointed to the post of commander of the Artillery Group of the [url=/topic/view/49514]Military Academy.

After Slovakia's entry into the war against the USSR, he left for the Eastern Front on 6 July 1941. He returned to Slovakia on 19 September and the very next day was appointed commander of the Artillery Group of the [url=/topic/view/43694]Military Academy in Bratislava. He remained in this position until the end of 1943. On 1 January 1943 he was promoted to major and on 1 January 1944 he was appointed commander of the Military Training Camp Lest - Oremov Laz. Major Korda was a member of the illegal military resistance group "Victoire", centered at the Land Army Headquarters in Banska Bystrica.

After the outbreak of the Slovak National Uprising on 10 September 1944, he became the commander of the 25th Infantry Battalion "Hron", which belonged to the III. tactical group "Gerlach" 1st Czechoslovak Army in Slovakia. On 19 November 1944, he was captured by the Germans. He was taken to a prison in Bratislava and then to Germany.

Lieutenant Colonel Korda returned from Germany on 1 June 1945. From the second half of October 1945, he served as temporary deputy commander of the Military Academy in Hranice na Morave. He was promoted to the rank of colonel of artillery on 1 October 1946.

In February 1948, a group of democratically minded officers formed around him, trying to counter the communist efforts to take control of the army. In May 1949, Colonel Korda and six other officers were arrested. In 1952, he was transferred to Leopoldov. In August 1958, Alexander Korda was transferred to the Brno Prison Hospital in St. Anne's, where he died on 13 September at the age of 51 after nine years of imprisonment. The urn with the remains of Alexander Korda was placed in the joint family tomb in the cemetery in Vrútky (Stred-306).

In October 1990 he was rehabilitated and promoted in memoriam to the rank of Major General of the Czechoslovak Army. In Vrútki a street is named after him and since 1995 General Korda has been an honorary citizen of the town in memoriam.

Order of the Minister of Defence of the Slovak Republic No. 2/2013 of 31 May 2013 on the lending of an honorific name pursuant to Section 7(3)(d) of Act No. 321/2001 Coll. Self-propelled Artillery Detachment Michalovce the honorary name "Self-propelled Artillery Detachment of Major General Alexander Korda" is lent to the military unit 1109; Michalovce.
