Infantry General Rudolf Králíček
*1862, Huštěnovice +1946, Český Těšín
He started his military career in 1880 by entering the cadet school. He progressed rapidly and the outbreak of the First World War found him as commander of the 28th Infantry Division in Ljubljana with the rank of Lance Corporal. He went with the division to the Russian front, where he became commander of the IX Army Corps of the Third Army in early December. After breaking through the Russian front at Gorlice in May 1915, his corps captured Rzeszów and penetrated to the San. In 1916 his corps distinguished itself in repelling the Russian attack at Lvov, Brzezany, and then in the defence of Lvov in August and September. He then fell ill and was hospitalized for a long time.
After his recovery, in February 1917, he was sent to the Italian front, where he became commander of the XVI Army Corps of Boroević's Fifth Army in Gorizia. He distinguished himself especially as the organizer of the reliable defense in the 10th and 11th Soca battles. In May 1917 he was promoted to general of infantry. In June 1918, in the last offensive of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, his corps attacked the Piave in a particularly difficult section of the river island of Papadopoli. Due to the lack of support from his own artillery, his troops had to retreat back across the river with considerable casualties.
In October 1918, his illness recurred and he had to be removed to hospital, from where he did not return to the front. After the war, Králíček was retired as an army general of the Czechoslovak Army.
