Between 1891 and 1893 the present "Lower Barracks" called Kaiser Franz Josef Infanterie Kaserne (Kaiser Franz Josef Barracks) was built to serve the needs of the infantry and field hunters, who were organized as light infantry in the Austrian army since 1801. They housed Infantry Regiment 94 of the Austro-Hungarian Army, and from October 1920 to 03.10.1938 Infantry Regiment 44 of the Czechoslovak Army. The garrison headquarters was also located there.

The whole complex of the lower barracks was originally a set of eight buildings and four smaller ones. The dominant feature is the neo-Romanesque headquarters building, accentuated by a quadrilateral tower. The barracks buildings were constructed by an association of Liberec builders according to the project of the then Reich War Ministry and the city architect Adolf Kaulfers.
In order to improve the defensive composition of Infantry Regiment 44, the 29th and 30th Guard Battalions and the 2nd Independent Guard Company were moved to Liberec as the crisis increased in the late 1930s. On 08.10.1938, German Wehrmacht units entered Liberec and occupied Upper and Lower Barracks. From October 1945, Infantry Regiment 44 was renamed Infantry Regiment 30.
The name "6 October Barracks" was probably given in 1947.
