Laon-Couvron Airport Aérodrome de Laon-Couvron
The airfield was built, along with nearby sites at Chambry and Athies, in the late 1930s to serve the needs of the French military, but by the end of the 1st. World War II, two landing fields of the German Air Force were located in close proximity, named after the neighbouring village Vivaise Ost and Vivaise West. Before and at the beginning of World War II, French reconnaissance, bombing and fighter units were stationed here. In May 1940 it was occupied by the German Army and used by Luftwaffe combat units during the Battle of Britain. Subsequently, it housed mainly training and reserve units. In 1944, the combat squadrons returned for defence against Allied air raids, but also to attack England with the Mistel system. After the Allied invasion in June 1944, the airfield was liberated by US Third Army troops in early September of that year. After necessary repairs and modifications, the US Air Force (under the designation A-70) gradually stationed its combat and transport units there. After the departure of the USAAF, the site was handed over to the French administration, which found no use for it. Everything changed in the early 1950s. The Cold War meant an increase in the number of NATO bases in Europe, and among the reactivated bases was Laon-Couvron airfield. It was offered to the US Air Force, which took it over in 1951 and converted it into a modern base. Its troops were based there until the change in French policy towards NATO in 1967. It was subsequently handed over to the French, who moved some of their ground troops there, and only a small part of the former airfield was used by helicopters. The base was closed in 2012 and plans are underway to convert it into an autodrome.

Nie je jasný pôvodný nemecký názov z konca WW1 a tiež správny názov zákaldne Luftwaffe z WW2.... Takže som použil zatiaľ len pracovné názvy.
