Dear, in 2016, introduced the Kazakh branch of the south african companies Paramout Group armored vehicle with filename: System (Kazakh: Барыс, after our: irbis mountain, or snow leopard, in Latin: Panthera uncia). At the exhibition KADEX this wheeled infantry fighting vehicle equipped with the Russian bezosádkovou towers AU-220M, manned a 57mm cannon BM-57 Baikal and 7.62 mm machine gun.
The majority of experts and political commentators assumed that the Kazakh army will receive this vehicle in the loadout. But time has shown that South africans and Kazakhs have this option only for show, because the tests have prepared the vehicle with the tower "Saraz". For the needs of the Kazachů bezosádkovou tower originally known as "Nefer" adjusted kazašsko-Turkish company: Kazakhstan Aselsan Engineering in Astana. The tower is equipped with a 30mm cannon 2A42 and a machine gun of 7.62 mm. On 04.11.2021, Kazakh journalists from the Ulysmedia.kz portal drew attention to a possible corrupt background behind the development and production of Kazakh armoured vehicles - the MRAP Arlan and the Barys 8x8 armoured personnel carrier. The development and production of this equipment for the needs of the Kazakh Armed Forces was carried out by Kazakhstan Paramount Engineering, which was established in 2015 as a joint project of the South African company Paramount Group and Kazakhstan's state holding company Kazakhstan Engineering. The venture was to produce at least 30 pieces of armoured vehicles per year for the benefit of the Kazakh Armed Forces, with a total of 274 Arlan armoured vehicles and 106 Barys 8x8 armoured personnel carriers, according to the contract concluded in 2017. Both vehicles are licensed copies of the Paramount Marouder (Arlan) and Paramount Mbombe 8 (Barsy 8x8) vehicles. By 2020, the armed forces had received 90 Arlan vehicles, but in 2020 the order was reduced to 11 units and no more vehicles were ordered by the ministry for 2021. This was due to the high price of the Arlan (almost three times the price of the Paramount Marouder) and technical problems in operation. Unlike the Arlan, which was essentially a copy of the Paramount Marouder, the Barys 8x8 was modified. Some changes were made to the vehicle resulting from the requirements of the armed forces. Perhaps the biggest change was the integration of the Ansar combat module (KPI) with the 30mm 2A72 gun (although the originally introduced vehicle was armed with an even more powerful armament - the AU-220M combat module with a 57mm gun). The Barys 8x8 prototype was subjected to rigorous tests over a period of 4 years, which were judged to be successful. However, the journalists' investigative work revealed that the prototype repeatedly proved that it did not meet the requirements of the armed forces. Either in terms of operational durability or reliability, and many of the test results were either outright falsified or altered to make the deficiencies appear less than they were. In addition to the technical problems, there were also conceptual problems - despite the requirement to carry 7 people, Barys only had space for 6 people. And even in this configuration, it did not allow the carriage of the crew's personal belongings and paratroopers. There were no seals on the hatches, which not only allowed dust and fumes to enter the vehicle, but also rendered the operation of the weapons of mass destruction protection system inoperable. From an engine point of view, the vehicle is undersized (the requirement of the mini-secretariat of defence was for a 410 kw/55 bhp engine, but the original 336 kW/450 bhp engine was installed), so that it does not achieve the required speed or manoeuvrability, which is particularly critical in difficult terrain and obstacle crossing. The lack of power is also reflected in engine overheating. The design deficiencies of the exhaust system have caused exhaust fumes to leak into the interior. Officers participating in the military trials also criticised the absence of certified tests for ballistic and anti-mine armour resistance. As a pearl of insight, it appears that the vehicle's firing capability was not fully tested during the tests due to repeated malfunctions of the combat module and the weapon itself. The reloading system failed, there were problems in the software, the weapon was unable to maintain the set firing cadence and the sights had to be constantly adjusted.
