For the cessation of the plague in Odessa
"За прекращение чумы в Одессе".


The medal was established on June 19. April in the year 1838 tsar Nicholas I.. the Minister of war, count And.Also. Chernyshev was entrusted with the organization and registration of the decoration and the minister of finance E.F. Kankrin provide the state money necessary to manufacture the medals in gold and silver.


The medal was established and determined for the valuation officers, military and civilian officials, businessmen and other citizens of Odessa, who were involved in the "fight" against the plague in 1837.

Gold medals are intended for the valuation of the senior officers, health counsellors, senior officials and merchants, who financially participated and all of this action.

Silver medals have received the military officers, policemen, medics and officials enrolled in the secondary grades.

The medal was minted in st. Petersburg mint in June of 1838 and were produced:
- gold medals 344
- silver medals, 117

13. September 1838 are medals and ribbons sent from the ministry of war to Novorosijska to the governor, the count Voroncovi to grant or allocation. Total was granted 340 medals, golds and 117 medals in silver ( 4 gold medals in August 1841 returns the count Voroncev back to the ministry of war) In the year 1849 is, however, a few gold medals engraved with the new additional grant.


Description of the medal:

Avers:
In the area of the medal is a big plastic crowned monogram of tsar Nikolai I.

Reverse:
In the smooth surface of the medal is the inscription:
- "ЗА ПРЕКРАШЕНИЕ ЧУМЫ ВЪ ОДЕССЬ 1837"

Gold and silver medal has a diameter of 28.5 mm. Gold medal has a weight 19,68 mm.

In the upper part of the medal is a typical Russian's ear with a hinge for attachment to the ribbon. The ribbon is uniform, the color red ( the order of St. andrew. Alexandra)
