The medal For the benefit of Nikolai I. Медалъ "За полезное" Николай And
The medal was actually founded by the Russian tsar Alexander I. in December of 1801. In 1825, after the onset of Nikolai I. on the Russian throne is changing on the front side of the medal tsarist portrait and, at the same time was partially modified and the statute of the medal.
In the initial period of this medal vyznamenávali buyers (traders) for the proven merit of the state and of the sovereign, but later was determined to merit award of the military, but always only for the general merit, rather than for direct involvement in a combat encounter.
The medal was worn as a decoration of the medallion on the ribbons of the order: - Sv. Anna - Sv. Vladimir - Sv. Alexander Nevsky
The residents of the military areas and the crew was reserved for the medal on the ribbon of the order of St. Vladimir. The decision of the czar, as supreme panovníkovo recognition could medal complement the diamonds or precious stones. In this case, the medals worn on the ribbon of the order Sv. Andrew.
Description of the medal:
Avers: On the front side is a portrait of tsar Nikolai I. without external czarist attributes. Around the portrait is the inscription: "Б.М. НИКОЛАЙ И. ИМПЕРАТОРЪ И САМОДЕРЖЕЦЪ ВСЕРОСС.“
Reverse: Medal has in its edge of the decorative ornament in the center of which is in a circle the inscription: "ЗА ПОЛЕЗНОЕ"
At the bottom of the medal between the beginning of the transcript and its end is the dividing point, in this case the big dot.
At the top is a small hanging tab with a wire hanger ( silver or gold wire) to attach the ribbons.
Gold and silver medal is absolutely identical for both medals constructed from a single die.
Note: Mr. Čepurnov, a well-known Russian expert and falerista reported more medals on average 67 mm made out of gold. At the same time adds, however, that nothing close to a medal to him is not known.
