Commemorative medals of the International Brigades in Spain 1936 - 1939
Medals for Veterans of the Spanish Civil War 1936-1939


This commemorative medal was established by Decree of the People's Republic of Bulgaria, number 1094 of 28 May 1974. So late, but other countries, including Czechoslovakia, never established a medal for these fighters of their international units.


The medal was ceremoniously awarded both to the fighters from Bulgaria, but also to foreign guests, participants in the fighting in the International Brigades. The numbers of awards are not exact, as different sources give different numbers from 40 to 400 awards.


DESCRIPTION OF DECORATION


The medal is struck from yellow metal with a diameter of 33 mm. at the bottom of the medal are the letters in Cyrillic) BPFK, these are the initial letters and in their translation and meaning:


FIGHTER AGAINST FASCISM AND CAPITALISM


On the surface of the medal there is a relief map of Spain with the emblem of the inter-brigades and a clenched fist.


On the reverse side there is a five-pointed star in relief with a portrait of Jiri Dimitrov. At the edge is the inscription:


BULGARIAN INTERNATIONALISTS - SPAIN 1936-1939


The medal is attached to a Russian-type pin by means of a hanging loop. Ribbon - see picture.


Note :
The medal is very rare, interesting and unavailable in our conditions.
