MiG-29 variant A (9-12A) or MiG-29A

This version was often referred to as the MiG-29A and is an export variant of the basic version, intended for the Warsaw Pact states. Equipment changes were minimal, mainly the N019EA radar and the OEPrNK-29E optical system. It was produced at the MAPO factory between 1988 and 1991. The aircraft were received by Bulgaria, Hungary, East Germany, Poland, Romania and Czechoslovakia. They currently remain in service (after upgrades) in Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia.

20 MiG-29A and 4 MiG-29UB were delivered to East Germany in the late 1980s. From 1988 they operated from Preschen (with JG 3 Fighter Aviation Regiment), after German reunification they were moved to Laage, where they operated with one squadron of JG 73 Fighter Squadron. They were decommissioned from the German Air Force in 2004 and replaced by Eurofighter, later 22 were handed over to the Polish Air Force.

Camouflage coatings of MiG-29 aircraft in the Slovak Army

Tactical camouflage:the first 9 aircraft delivered in 1989 and 1990 were painted with it. It consisted of shades of green and brown on the upper surfaces and light grey on the lower part (fig. Miroslav Černy).

Camouflage optimised for air combat: classic factory paint, designed for air combat. It consisted of a light grey underside of the aircraft. The upper part was covered with areas in grey and grey-green shades. On the aircraft's turn signals, the yellow letters SL indicating the Sliač base were painted in front of the emblem. Squadron emblems also appear.

New camouflage: sprayed on the aircraft that had undergone repairs at Trenčín Aircraft Repair Works. The aircraft were light grey with grey surfaces. The tip of the nose was painted black only on the very tip.

Special camouflage was also used for ceremonial and demonstration events (e.g. brown-green paint with Slovak tri-colour combination or various versions of tiger striping).

On all delivered and oversprayed machines, the area in front of the cockpit was painted matte black to prevent glare to the pilot. The national emblem of the Slovak Republic was on both sides of the wings and on the outside of the turn signals (the same as in the AČR).
