Percival John Moss enlisted as a 16 year old with the 1st Battalion, East Lancashire Regiment in April 1930.

He served with the unit in India from October 1930 to March 1932 and then in China from March 1932 to March 1933. He then returns to Britain and serves at the Regimental Replacement (Training) Centre at Preston until 1937, when he rejoins his regimental unit.

He takes part with his unit in operations in France as part of the British Expeditionary Force in 1940 and is evacuated from Dunkirk on 2 June 1940.

In July 1940 he becomes an Ensign and is posted to the newly formed 7th Battalion, East Lancashire Regiment and remains with this battalion until 1942 when he rejoins the 1st Battalion.

As a volunteer he reports to the newly formed Parachute Force and is posted to B Company, 13th Parachute Battalion as Staff Sergeant of that company. From 28 October - 9 November 1943, he completes Parachute Course 89 at RAF Ringway.

Moss, along with this unit, carries out the Normandy landings and here is awarded the Commander in Chief's Certificate for his service during that campaign.

He also takes part in the Battle of the Ardennes and is wounded during the Battle of Bure on 3 January 1945 when A Company came under heavy mortar and machine-gun fire and suffered significant casualties. Mjr. Watson led Company A in a blameworthy manner in an attack on a village against the enemy. At the same time, Company B was advancing along the high ground on the right flank where it came under heavy fire from artillery, self-propelled guns, tanks and infantry.

B Company suffered heavy casualties among others Staff Sergeant Moss who dies of wounds on 4 January 1945.

He is buried in the Leopoldsburg War Cemetery.
