Floating railway bridge NŽM-56 (НЖМ-56)
NŽM-56 is a railway floating bridge designed to cross deep water courses. Its flow does not exceed 2 m/s and wind speed 12 m/s. The NŽM-56 can be assembled with a gauge of 1520 or 1435 mm in single-track design with a load capacity of up to 60.8 kNm (6.2 tc/m). For freight transport, SO or Eu series steam locomotives, TE-2 and TE-3 diesel locomotives, VL-23 and VL-80 electric locomotives can be used. Six-axle fully loaded wagons may be included in the train set, which are spaced in the set at a distance of 70 m from each other or from the locomotive.

A train with six-axle fully laden wagons may only pass over a floating bridge when they are 70 m apart or away from the locomotive. Car traffic may be carried in parallel with passing trains in columns at 30 m intervals and at speeds not exceeding 30 km/h. Tracked vehicles weighing 50 tonnes may move over the bridge in columns at 50 m intervals - only when no train is passing over the bridge.

The pontoon bridge consists of a river section, two crossing sections and two shore sections. The river section of the bridge usually consists of a 37.5 m long bridge substructure made up of six pontoons. The floating section of the bridge is articulated with the approach and exit sections. If necessary, these offshore sections are equipped with reinforcing abutments. The two shore structures are made up of three 6,25 m long blocks. If necessary, these coastal sections can be extended. The pontoon railway bridge should ensure operation even in case of water level fluctuations. The longitudinal slope of the shore spans should not exceed 30 degrees. Support structures for the KŽM-56 entrance and exit ramps may be locally sourced.

The length of the bridge spans of the river section may be modified to a range of 6.25 m and a height of 0.8 m. It should be kept in mind that the draft of the pontoons increases by 9.0% when heavy equipment passes. The minimum bridge length is 75.0 m. The NŽM-56 set can be used to build a 531.8 m long floating bridge or several shorter bridges.
