キ12 航空機 / Ki-jyuni Kokūki / experimental fighter

History:
Japanese army air force (Rikugun Koku Hombu) was mostly less progressive than the air force and navy. Already in 1935, the leaders of the Rikugun Koku Hombu decided to call the technical lead of his rival and demanded for their air unit a modern fighter, that would fully offset the great fighters of the A5M. The Factory Nakajima Hikoki To. To. got to study two aircraft Dewoitine D.510 and, after careful examination of the design were to help the designer to Shigenobu Morimu invited also two French engineers engineers, Roger Robert and Jean Beziaud, those worked in an aircraft factory Dewoitine. The result of this collaboration was a modern all-metal low-wing completed in October 1936. The engine was, how else, terraced dvanáctiválec Hispano-Suiza 12Xcrs, which was delivered together with a cannon Hispano-Suiza HS-9. The cannon shot dutám shaft of the propeller, and had a supply of 60 shells in bubnovém the stack. The great news, even compared to the French Dewoitinám was the retractable landing gear, which allowed dasahnout solid speed. Due to their very resembled a modernised Dewoitine D.510. When comparative tests were found to be good flight characteristics, all the parameters that would have required the command of the army air force, the prototype not only reached, but many even surpassed, in production, however, did not get, because he had to the japanese ratios greater load of the wing and thus also less dexterity.
In 1936 the unofficially participated in the contest of the army air force fighter monoplane. The winner of the competition was much more conservative conceived, Nakajima Ki-27, that had fixed landing gear, a weaker arm, lower performance, but higher dexterity. We must, however, also fair to say that the negotiations for licensed production of the engine Hispano was not successful and the Japanese could not be dependent on supplies from abroad.
What is certain is that it was in the year 1936, one of the very advanced aircraft with very promising performances and a solid armament..
