history
In 1918, it was planned to be established as a bombing unit, but during the First World War it was not activated (some sources state its existence in the period 01.06.1918-04.07.1918, but they also claim that it was abolished during the formation).
It was established on January 16, 1942 as a bomber unit armed with aircraft Liberator at the base Thurleigh. While ground personnel travel to India from February of that year, flight personnel complete training and travel overseas through June through Palestine and Egypt, attacking enemy targets in Libya and Crete. It operates here until January 1943, when it is absorbed into the newly formed 178. squadron. In India (after replenishment), it initially patrolled the Bay of Bengal, after moving to Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) provides shipping protection, laying minefields and conducting reconnaissance flights in Sumatra and the Nicobar Islands. In June 1945, it is intended for special operations (dropping agents and supporting the resistance movement) in Malaysia and Sumatra. At the end of the war transformed into a transport unit. In June 1946, he returned to Great Britain, where he operated as a naval reconnaissance unit, but on September 30 of the same year, it ceased to be renamed 120. RAF Squadron.
