history
20.08.1918 - Formed at Cattewater by merging several separate squadrons (Nos. 347, 348 and 349) of the Coastal Air Force and patrolling the English Channel until the end of the war
15.05.1919 - framed
20.03.1922 - disbanded
16.05.1940 - reconstituted at Tangmere as a fighter, participating in the Battle of Britain and then taking part in offensive sorties over the continent
May 20, 1941 - begins movement to North Africa, flying personnel on aircraft carrier Victorious, ground personnel by ship via South Africa
14.06.1941 - accompanies bombers and undertakes offensive operations on the North African front until late 1942, then withdrawn to Egypt as part of air defence and rearmed with Spitfire fighters
30.03.1944 - transferred to Corsica, from where it mainly attacks ground targets in southern France and northern Italy and participates in the landings in southern France (Operation Dragoon)
08.10.1944 - withdrawn to Italy
31.10.1944 - disbanded
01.12.1944 - reconstituted at Merryfield as a transport unit
14.02.1945 - transferred to India
02.07.1945 - transferred to Australia
27.12.1945 - disbanded
01.12.1946 - reconstituted at Abingdon base again as transport by renumbering 525 Squadron, participating in the "air bridge" to besieged Berlin (1948-1949)
04.10.1948 - in the course of this operation it disappears by renaming to 10th Squadron (according to some sources as late as 5 November 1948)
