1944

Until the middle of the year, offensive actions over the continent, including escorting bombers, were the main activity, but also training in direct support of ground troops. On the first day of the invasion (6 June), the squadron conducts four sorties of 12 aircraft each, lasting about 2.5 h. In the following days, it primarily conducts attacks on ground targets (including V-1 launch pads) and bomber escorts. Among other things, between 19 and 22 August, it supports the attack of 1st Polish Armored Division in the Falaise area (its fighting is occasionally supported until the end of the war). With the advance of Allied troops, 1944 ends at St.Denijs-Westrem airfield near Ghent.
