The squadron was established on September 15, 1962 at the base RCAF La Macaza as 447 (Surface/Air Missile) Squadron and provided air defense missile system Bomarc. With its decommissioning, the unit was disbanded on September 1, 1972.
It was activated for the second time on January 1, 1979 as a base CFB Edmonton (Namao) as 447 Helicopter Squadron and was armed with transport helicopters [ url=/topic/view/92945] CH-147 Chinook[/url]. On April 1, 1991, it was dissolved again.
