Honorary cross of the north.


The cross they gave all the soldiers of the Finnish and the German army, who served and fought on the territory of Finland(Karelia Laplandie and the Murmansk region, that is, on the disputed territories, which, however, the Finns were counting on for their own territorial area.


Total were minted three variants of this honorary and memorial cross. The first two were intended for the troops on the Northern front and the third variant of the cross is ascribed just to fight in Laplendii(Lapland).


On all types of the cross in the middle is located the medallion, which is white, or black enameled and is surrounded by a gilded sock hop. On the center of the medallion is shown the character of Finland, which is the Finnish lion. From the coat of arms of the lion are based on the flag of Finland and Germany. On the center the outer ring, the inscription:


POHJOISRINTAMA -DIE NORDFRONT (North front)


The inscription is carried out both in Finnish and partly in German. The flag is placed the year:

Own area of the cross is enamelled blue(or black). Between these enamelled shoulders is interposed a Finnish swastika and on the arms of this cross(the swastika) are stamped the names of major battlefields. The cross is carried again to the chest. Lapland is a region or province of Finland,which is located on the north of the country. Lives here is the original population, the Sami.
