The howitzer platform was without its own engine. Propulsion was provided by electric motors, which were supplied with electricity by the towing vehicle with which they formed a set. The power transmission was ensured by connecting the vehicles with an electric cable. The towing vehicle was also the ammunition supply vehicle. A complete prototype with the Model 1916 howitzer was presented to the Army at Bourges in 5/1918. General Foch requested the construction of 75 of the 220 self-propelled howitzers on 10/9/1918. The request favored the 220 mm howitzer model 1916 which was contrary to the possibilities offered by FAMH. The latter planned to offer the first pieces with the more powerful 220 mm howitzer model 1917 (see photos of the prototype above) and later model 1918 (range 13,500 m). On 12.11.1918 the order for machines with 220 mm howitzers was cancelled and the development was concentrated on a similar weapon, but of a larger calibre (Mortier de 280 mle 1914 sur Chenilles Schneider).
The prototype took part in the fighting at the Verdun front in the summer of 1918.
