Order of Glory

It was established by a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of 8 November 1943 for members of the Soviet Army's men and non-commissioned officers (in the air force and for second lieutenants) who, in fighting for their country, set an example of courage, bravery and intrepidity by their actions. It has three degrees, but they are awarded successively, in the order of III, II and then I degree. It is worn on the left side of the chest, after the Order of the Red Banner (in the system of all Soviet decorations, after the Order of the Badge of Honor). The statute defines that the Order of Glory may be awarded to those who first penetrated an enemy position and contributed to the general success by personal bravery, those who destroyed one and three tanks with hand grenades, those who shot down at least three aircraft with artillery or machine gun fire, one who captured an enemy officer, one who saved a commander who was in imminent danger in battle with the risk of his own life, one who crushed a cannon or two machine-gun nests with tank tracks, one who obtained valuable intelligence on the enemy during reconnaissance operations, etc. Those who became recipients of the Order of Glory of all three degrees were entitled to the conferment of a higher rank (privates, lance corporals and sergeants of the rank of ensign, ensigns of the rank of second lieutenant, and air force second lieutenants of the rank of lieutenant) and, by virtue of statutory provisions, to the privileges accorded to holders of the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.

Prvními oficiálními plnými kavalíry (nositeli všech 3 tříd) byli desátník Mitrofan Trofimovič Pitěnin a starší seržant Konstantin Kirillovič Ševčenko, kterým byl z výnosu Prezídia Nejvyššího sovětu SSSR 22. července 1944 udělena 1. třída. Z neznámého důvodu však Ševčenkův nese č. 21 a Pitěninův nenese žádné číslo, jelikož o 2 týdny později padl v boji.
Mužem, který tedy nese Řád slávy 1. stupně s č. 1 je starší seržant (později poručík) Nikolaj Andrejevič Zaľotov, který ho získal z výnosu Prezídia Nejvyššího sovětu SSSR z 5. října 1944 a č. 2 nese staršina (později starší seržant) Viktor Sergejevič Ivanov z výnosu Prezídia Nejvyššího sovětu SSSR z 24. března 1945.

Dne 19.8.2023 zemřel poslední žijící "plný kavalír" Řádu slávy Vasilij Ivanovič Dobrica. Snímek pochází z 20.2.2015, kdy byl náš hrdina v Kremlu vyznamenán Medailí k 70. výročí ve velké vlastencké válce.
