Pierce-Arrow - At the beginning of World War I, in connection with the development of aviation (planes and airships) and the threat of air raids on targets in London, one of the world's first mobile anti-aircraft guns was created (similar developments were also underway in France and Germany). The chassis of a 5-ton Pierce-Arrow lorry was used to create an armoured superstructure which housed the Vickers QF 3-in 20cwt Mk.I anti-aircraft gun. As this gun was developed and used by the Navy, this asset was also used by the Royal Naval Artillery with the Anti-Aircraft Brigade, to protect Whitehall.
