Boeing B-52 Stratofortress
An overview of the versions

the XB-52
The prototype, a total built 2 specimens (one converted to YB-52). The tandem arrangement of the seats of the pilots. The drive was comprised of eight engines Pratt & Whitney J-57-P3. The first flight was 2. October 1952.

the YB-52
A second prototype. One XB-52 was converted to the YB-52, because he assumed assembly equipment corresponding to the mass-produced version. But this has not happened, and so the differences between the XB-52 and YB-52 were minimal. The first flight of the aircraft took place on 15. April 1952.

B-52A
This version was ordered only thirteen pieces, made were but in the end only three. From prototypes to differentiate by rearranging the stem and its extension of about 53 cm. The place prototypes with tandem layout seats now pilots sat next to each other. Oversize bow make it possible to extend avionické equipment and number of crew members to expand by one to a total of six. In the rear part of the fuselage was installed sřelecká turret with four machine guns caliber 12.7 mm. The three made a B-52A to the american air force was let to Boeing, which on them were conducted by the flight test. The remaining orders were converted to RB-52B.

NB-52A
The third made the B-52A (52-0003) was in the 1959 modified on the carrier experimental aircraft X-15.

B-52B
The first serial version used by the american airforce. Compared to the B-52A to differentiate small changes on the engines and avionic in order to remove the minor problems that occurred in version And. The first user of the B-52B in June 1955 happened 93. bomber wing (accepted by the 93rd wait wait wait wait wait Wing) at Castle AFB in California. Out of a total of 50 produced by the B-52B was the 27 specimens able to perform reconnaissance tasks. These machines carry the RB-52B. Seven B-52B was in the framework of the program of Project Sunflower was adjusted to a version of the B-52C.

NB-52B
One heavy bomber, the B-52B (52-0008) modified on the carrier experimental aircraft X-15.

RB-52B
27 produced by the B-52B was the ability to use reconnaissance container carrying the camera K-36, K-38 and T-11. The crew of the aircraft was extended about two operators to recon the container to a total of eight persons. To the assembly of the container were needed four hours.

B-52C
Compared to the version B has an enlarged range thanks to the installation of larger podkřídlových fuel tanks. Furthermore, improved navigation and bombing systems. Has also been improved fire control system tail guns, which a type designation was MD-9. The propulsion units were of the type Pratt & Whitney J-57-19W or -29W. In the arsenal of the USAF introduced from June 1956. The total was made 35 pieces of this version.

RB-52C
Analogue of the RB-52B based on variants of the B-52C. Designation of the RB-52C was, however, in practice, used only rarely.

B-52D
Version largely corresponding design of the B-52C with the same engines Pratt & Whitney J-57-19W or -29W and fire control system MD-9. The only difference was the impossibility of carrying reconnaissance container. 101 units of this version made the race in Seattle, 69 then went off the production line at the factory in Wichita. In the arsenal of the us air force was the B-52D established in December 1956. During the service the planes were modified so that they can operate at low altitudes. Adjusted was avionics and amplified by the dragon. Conversion of "Big Belly" allowed the bomber to carry a considerable amount of conventional ammunition. The aircraft was operationally deployed during the Vietnam war.

B-52E
Variant already from the beginning designed for performing missions at low altitudes. Equipped with was the bomber system, AN/ASB-4 and the navigation system AN/ASQ-38, which from its predecessors was distinguished greater precision and reliability (the opposite however, was true). Made was 100 pieces. Used purely as a strategic bomber with the ability to carry only nuclear weapons.

JB-52E
Two B-52E modified for testing dvouproudových engines General Electric TF-39 (for the program C-5 Galaxy), respectively, JT9D (Boeing 747).

B-52F
Version powered by more powerful engines Pratt & Whitney J-57-43W, -43WA or -43WB. Built 89 specimens. In the framework of the modification of the "South Bay" was a 28 aircraft modified by the addition of two podkřídlových pylons for carrying conventional ammunition (up to 24 pieces of 750 lb. pum). Later on, this standard amended the other 44 machines. The aircraft was operationally deployed during the Vietnam war.

B-52G
The aircraft was equipped with wing integral tanks. The wing was deprived of wings, their function is to perform a spoilers. The height of the tail surfaces was reduced by 2.4 meters. The design has been lightened by 15 000 lb (6 804 kg). Was enlarged radom on the bow. The tail gunner position is shifted from the tail of the airplane to the main cockpit of the machine, which allowed to reduce the weight (due to the absence of pressurised shooter in the rear of the bomber). The B-52G was the weaponry introduced in February 1959. The aircraft was operationally deployed during the Vietnam war. Made was 193 pieces of this variant, most of them were destroyed in the framework of the treaty on reduction of strategic offensive arms (Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty).

B-52H
This variant entered into service in the u.s. air force in may 1961 and was produced a total of 102 units. The most significant change represented development of new dvouproudových engines TF33-P-3. Dragon machines is practically equivalent to the version G. Defensive machine-gun armament at the stern was replaced by a single cannon M61A1 Vulcan. From the time of introduction into the armament this version has undergone countless refurbishments, thanks to which the us air force uses in 2009.

EB-52H
The proposed variant identified for the first time, the total should be at this standard rebuilt 16 aircraft. Has not been carried out.
