Lockheed L-1011 TriStar
A civilian transport aircraft, also used in the L-1011-500 version in the RAF with 216 Squadron as a transport and for in-flight refuelling. It was purchased by the RAF in the early 1980s after the experience of the Falklands War. A total of nine machines are used in four variants:
TriStar C.2:
Two machines originally belonging to PanAm, a transport aircraft with no major modifications from the civilian variant, 242 seats.
TriStar C.2A:
A single C.2, complete with military avionics.
TriStar KC.1:
Four transport/tanker aircraft, originally designed to transport squadron facilities- so it has the option of a 204 seat configuration, or 20 transport pallets, or any combination of both. It also has additional tanks installed under the floor for in-flight refueling. These can hold up to 43,900kg of fuel, bringing the total fuel capacity to 139,700kg. The aircraft originally belonged to British Airways.
TriStar K.1:
Two refueling machines that have a fixed seating capacity of 187 passengers and, of course, additional tanks under the floor. Unlike the KC.1, they also do not have cargo doors.
