P-014Д "Датчик"

R-014D ( P-014Д "Датчик")

An accessory manufactured in the late 1970s for sending encrypted messages using speed telegraphy. This use significantly worsened the focus of the transmitter on the enemy.
The length of the message can have a maximum of 62 digits, at the beginning there was usually a 3-digit message address. Error detection and correction (EDC), which is based on the Bose-Chaudhuri coding principle, is used to ensure strong noise immunity and error correction.

Basic technical data
- power supply 4.8V (2x2.4V lye batteries 2NKP-20U2 (2НКП-20У2)), or via power cable
- power consumption: message transmission 2.1A, online status 1.5A
- oscillator operating frequency 120kHz
- baud rate: optional 75/150 baud
- Send message 4-7 seconds
- operating temperature range: -50 ° C to + 50 ° C
- waterproof for immersion in water up to 1 m for 15 minutes.
- dimensions: 35 x 25 x 17cm
- device weight 9.7 kg (without battery, with cable and lid)
- weight of the device 14.5 kg (with battery, carrying case with straps, cable and lid)
- set stored in a wooden box (546x359x357mm) contains:
(a) the speed telegraph itself
b) connecting cable
c) one set of batteries
(d) a carrying case with carrying straps
e) set of small spare parts (ZIP)
f) operational documentation (in a special partition that can be sealed)

Usage for radio stations:
- Option 1: R-137, R-140
- Option 2: R-129, R-130, R-131, R-135, R-143

In practice, the device can be used for every Soviet radio station (series ASTRA, R-111, R-159, etc.) even without input for this device - a connector for the handset/headset and a modified cable is used.
The device allows to send 5-bit codes of numbers 0-9, characters "space П" and "end of message КЦ" and it is also possible to send a so-called synchronization message. Using the built-in indicator, it is possible to check the battery voltage, and the inverter voltage (+ 4V, -6.3V, -20V), in position K, it is possible to monitor the sending of the message by vibrating the hand. However, it did not allow reverse decoding or receiving messages.
As long as the numbers or the characters "П" (space) and "КЦ" (end of message) are pressed, the given characters light up on the indicator.
The removable lid houses a screwdriver, a plastic case with spare fuses and a key for battery contacts. The device itself is designed and made of high quality and durable.
Transistors, semiconductors and magnetic ferrite memories are widely used in the device. It was also used as a portable device, as well as mounted in technology (radio car R-142, and in the Soviet version BMP-1K). However, I do not know its use in Czechoslovakia.
Its use by Soviet troops is also documented in Afghanistan, but it was gradually pushed out (due to weight and technical obsolescence) by the R-394KM radio station.

Writing a message:
After switching on the device, it is necessary to press the "У" character. The three-digit address (sender identification code) was usually given at the beginning of the message, followed by a space and five-digit codes, always separated by a space. If the message is shorter than 62 characters (a space is also counted as a character), the "КЦ" character must be entered at the end of the message. If the memory is already full, the character "КЦ" is automatically entered instead of the last number.

Checking the registered message:
Press the У key and then the ПР key. The first message number is displayed on the indicator light. Each time you press the character ПР, it moves one character forward in the message, while it is always displayed on the indicator. Unable to send message while checking message. If it is necessary to correct a character, it is necessary to find out its exact position in the message, press У again and with the ПР key to "click" to the last character before the character we want to overwrite. Then we press a new (corrected) character and in case we want to continue reading the message, by pressing ПР we get to the end of the message, where the character КЦ lights up, then we press У. If you want to interrupt the message reading check at any time, pressing the У key will interrupt the check.

Sending a message:
We connect the device to the radio station, turn it on and set the sending mode. Use the hand indicator to check the battery and inverter voltages. We press the У key and, if necessary, we can send the synchronization character for the recipient (to start recording, or as a signal that we will send a message) with the ПЗ button. This will send a sync pulse. Sending is indicated by the illuminated K light and the vibration of the indicator hand. Sending takes 2.3s (75baud speed) or 1.1s (150baud speed).
To send the message, press У and then ПИ. Sending 62 characters takes 6s (75baud) or 3s (150baud) and is also indicated by the K lamp and the vibration of the indicator hand. The speed telegraph switches the radio to transmit automatically, and switches back to receive when the message is sent. The message can be sent again.
Deleting a message is possible in two ways, using the У and КЦ buttons, or when the connecting cable is disconnected, we can send the message, and press the У button while the K light is on. This clears the message from memory.
