PPLRK 9K333 Verba is developed based on PPLRK Igla-S. Development dates back to before 2007, with trials scheduled to be conducted in 2009-2010. The development was delayed and the vehicle was officially tested by the 726th Ground Forces Training Center (Yeysk, Krasnodar Krai) from 09.06.2011. The trials were completed in 2014 and the means was accepted into armament.
Serial production of 9M336 missiles started already in 2012 at Plant No. 21 im. The production of the M33336 was started in the beginning of the first stage of production in Moscow. In 2013, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation ordered 4 brigade complexes of PPLRK 9K333 for the needs of ground troops and 4 detachment complexes for airborne forces. The first serial assets were received by the Army in May 2014, with the first unit armed with the complex being the anti-aircraft regiment of the 98th Airborne Troops Division of the Airborne Forces. As of 27 November 2015, all of the assets ordered in 2013 had been delivered to the units.
